According to customs officials, the passenger had arrived from Dubai to Goa by an Air India flight AI 994 and had opted to go through the green channel.
Acting on suspicion, the AIU officials intercepted the passenger at the exit gate of the customs arrival lounge and during the search, recovered Indian and foreign currency valued at about Rs 40 lakh.
The customs officials informed that the seized currency is liable for confiscation under the provision of Sections 110 and 111 of the Customs
Act and further investigation is in progress.
Incidentally, when attempts were made to obtain details of the passenger carrying the Indian and foreign currency, sources informed that customs officials have been directed not to reveal the identity of those persons linked to the confiscated goods and currency.
This is the first currency seizure of this year and it comes barely two days after customs officials had seized gold worth Rs 17 lakh from passengers in two separate incidents at Dabolim airport.
